A politician attempts to provide reassurance about domestic economic hardship by pointing out that people overseas are suffering more, as if relative global suffering is a balm for empty wallets. The kind of rhetorical move that makes you wonder if anyone in the room thought "maybe we should just... fix the problem instead?" Peak "at least you're not starving" energy wrapped in the language of pragmatism.
